The Silver salmon are running now.  Each morning on the radio they announce where the biggest runs are around the state to make sure you know where to go to get your limit.  The Salmon Derby is over in Seward now and I heard that it was a successful season for those that participated.

You still can catch the occasional King salmon as well.  July is the best time to catch king salmon in Alaska.  Our family goes to the Kenai river to go dip netting.  If you are an Alaska resident, the head of the household is entitled to catch 25 Reds a year.  Each additional family member's limit is 10 fish a year.  Dipping netting makes a great way to stock up on your winter supply of frozen canned and smoked salmon.  When you dip net, you use a huge net about 5 five in diameter, to scoop the salmon out of the water.
